Specialty Clinic Physician Honored

Channel 7 News crew recently honored Dr. Vel Kailasam for his volunteerism and for his countless hours helping underserved patients in India, Northern Colorado, and Northeastern Colorado, including Fort Morgan. News anchor Mitch Jelniker presented the well-known “7 Everyday Hero” award in front of fellow staff at Northern Colorado Allergy and Asthma Clinic, patients, and other well wishers.

The “7 Everyday Hero” award is presented each Sunday during the 7News broadcast at 10 p.m. to Colorado citizens who are making a difference in their community. The segment also appears throughout the following week on various broadcasts and is posted on the news station’s website.

Patient Mary Trump nominated Dr. Kailasam for the honor. The board certified allergist and dermatologist was quite surprised, although gracious when accepting the ward and simply stated that he really was just doing what every doctor does on a daily basis – caring for patients.

Mike Patterson, Colorado Plains Medical Center CEO notes that Dr. Kailasam is a highly respected physician on staff at the Specialty Clinic on the hospital’s campus and has been seeing area patients for approximately 25 years. Patterson points out that Dr. Kailasam’s dedication to care is evident through his involvement with the community health fair every year where he performs skin screenings at no charge. In the past, he has also sponsored free allergy and asthma clinics the Fort Morgan hospital.

“Many of our patients who have seen Dr. Kailasam comment about his patient and friendly demeanor and his individualized approach to give each patient a treatment plan for an improved lifestyle,” remarks Patterson.

As a dermatologist and allergist, Dr. Kailasam treats pediatric and adult patients for dermatological diseases, mole checks and removal, acne, warts, actinic kerasotes, rosacea, food and drug allergies, asthma, hives, respiratory disorders, and allergy and allergic conjunctivitis.

When not treating patients, Dr. Kailasam enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, and taking photographs. He volunteers at the Monfort Children’s Clinic and Sunrise Clinic in Greeley, and at the Salud Clinic in Fort Morgan and is able to provide underprivileged pediatric patients with an improved quality of life. By working with Rotary Club, he has also been able to conduct asthma camps in underserved areas of India.
